Pi 5 Cluster
Raspberry Pi 5 cluster with K3s that load-balanced the school website during the LGK open day.
For the Porte Ouverte at Lycée Guillaume Kroll we linked several Raspberry Pi 5 boards into a K3s cluster. Instead of one device serving every visitor, the load is spread across the nodes — and if one Pi goes down, the others keep the site up.
What I learned
- Physically building and wiring a multi-node cluster
- Why load balancing matters, and what really happens when a node fails
- K3s is powerful but hard to debug at our level — which is why we want to try something simpler next
Next steps
- Rebuild it with Docker Swarm — simpler and closer to what we already know
- Add more nodes and run real containerised services on it, not just a load balancer
- Write it up as a guide the next BTS class can follow
